One Friendship, Two Cultures

They came for the activities but stayed for the friendship. At Lions Befrienders Active Ageing Centre in Clementi, Mr. Yoganathan and Mr. Tan—two seniors from different worlds—found something rare and enduring: a bond rooted in humour, empathy, and mutual respect. Through simple acts like sharing meals, supporting newcomers, and checking in on rainy days, their story reflects the true spirit of community and connection across cultures.

From Four Walls to Open Arms

Step into Lions Befrienders Active Ageing Centre at 420A Clementi, and you’ll be greeted not by silence, but by laughter. Seniors gather around tables—so many that some spill out into the lobby area. There’s rummikub being played in one corner, mahjong tiles clacking in another, and the unmistakable buzz of happy chatter filling the air. It feels less like a community centre and more like a family reunion in full swing.

From Orphan to Advocate

For many seniors, loneliness isn’t just an occasional feeling—it’s a daily reality. At Lions Befrienders, we see first-hand how a friendly face and a listening ear can make all the difference.

Instead, he found purpose through volunteering at Lions Befrienders (Active Ageing Centre @ Clementi 366), where he nurtures friendships as naturally as he nurtures plants.

Retirement Remixed

For Mr. Leong Chong Fye, retirement became his most rewarding chapter yet. What began as a search for peaceful days transformed into something far richer at Lions Befrienders (Active Ageing Centre @ Clementi 366).
