LB Conference

LB Conference

At Lions Befrienders, we launched our first annual conference in 2022 and since then, in 2023 and 2024. The motivation behind LB conferences is to provide an industry opportunity for Social Service Agency (SSA) professionals to network and share best practices with one another. Through presentations and demonstrations by speakers of different disciplines, we hope to continuously refine industry research and evolving trends behind ageing societies and how we can consolidate these learnings to apply to the unique needs of each SSA..

1. LB Conference 2024
LB Conference 2024
  • Building on the success of LB’s inaugural conference in 2022, we held our second conference on 24 May 2024. Our theme this year is Silver Horizon: Building Aspirations for Successful Ageing. Looking beyond the vulnerabilities of seniors, this theme explores how seniors may live their lives to the fullest through active and productive community involvement, such as volunteerism, micro jobs, lifelong learning, and community participation. At the heart of this theme is the belief that successful ageing is not just about health or longevity, but about empowering seniors to remain engaged, independent, and connected to their communities. We explore how seniors can be active participants in shaping their own futures, taking control of their aspirations, and pursuing personal growth at any stage of life.

Promoting knowledge exchange and evidence-based practice has become increasingly important in addressing the evolving needs of the ageing population. To this end, we hope that the LB conference could provide a platform for eldercare practitioners to come together for joint learning and networking. The conference has attracted approximately 250 participants, including practitioners from eldercare, healthcare, community care, as well as public servants from government agencies.

We were honoured to welcome Mr. Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Social and Family Development, as our Guest-of-Honour. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our guest speakers for their invaluable contributions to this year’s conference, providing insightful perspectives on key topics related to successful ageing.

It is crucial that we shift our perspective to recognize seniors as contributors to society, not merely as individuals facing vulnerabilities. As we continue to explore new opportunities for seniors to engage productively, we reaffirm our commitment to building a society that values and celebrates the contributions of its older members.

LB Conference 2022
  • As the saying goes, it takes a village. Befriending is a service known to many and has become an integral part of the eldercare service in Singapore. But beyond providing friendships, in the wake of our new eldercare model, befriending plays a greater role in mobilising the community and innovating for better care. The theme of this conference, Redefining Befriending: Building Relationships and Enhancing Care, reflects this shift. When it comes to building relationships, we aim to explore deeper health-social integration and initiate community conversations on key practice issues, such as the emerging needs and interest of seniors and the necessary competencies for practitioners. In line with building relationships, it explores greater health-social integration and creates a platform for the attendees to network, connect with one another and build relationships. For enhancing care, our conference touches on the topics of loneliness and social isolation, health coaching, and end-of-life care in the community.

Viewed through a broader lens, befriending is a community-driven approach. Promoting health and well-being among the growing elderly population requires a proactive, integrated, and wide-reaching support system.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our Guest-of-Honour, Ms. Rahayu Mahzam, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Health at the Ministry of Health, for gracing the event, and to all our guest speakers for joining us at our inaugural conference!  It was a fruitful session, where approximately 150 eldercare, healthcare, and community care practitioners gathered to gain valuable insights from experts on enhancing care for seniors.

As we continue to address the evolving needs and expectations within the community care sector, it’s essential that we enhance collaborative capabilities and strengthen the care ecosystem for our seniors.
