Making Every Day a Happy One

Every Monday and Friday, the little corner near the activity room at Lions Befrienders Active Ageing Centre (AAC) at Mei Ling 150 comes alive with colour, chatter, and the gentle rhythm of crochet hooks. Right in the middle is 79-year-old Mdm. Ng Soh Guat, with nimble fingers and a ready smile.
“做一点东西过日子,头脑才会动嘛!”
“Doing a bit of work helps pass the day—and keeps the mind sharp!”
One Friendship, Two Cultures

They came for the activities but stayed for the friendship. At Lions Befrienders Active Ageing Centre in Clementi, Mr. Yoganathan and Mr. Tan—two seniors from different worlds—found something rare and enduring: a bond rooted in humour, empathy, and mutual respect. Through simple acts like sharing meals, supporting newcomers, and checking in on rainy days, their story reflects the true spirit of community and connection across cultures.
Single, Strong, and Connected

Mdm. Yew Poh Chue may be single, but she’s far from being alone. At 68, she’s rewriting what it means to age on your own terms—with purpose, humour, and heart. From quiet independence to discovering connection and joy through Lions Befrienders, Her journey shows that aging isn’t about winding down—it’s about widening your world.
Not All Angels Wear Scrubs

On a typical morning in the community, Alyxandra Xu, 30, makes her way to a senior’s home. She’s not in scrubs, but she carries something just as vital: deep clinical insight, empathy, and a quiet determination to serve. Alyxandra, known affectionately as Aly, is not your typical nurse anymore. Today, she walks a different path, one rooted in presence, understanding, and holistic care as a Social Worker with the Community Case Management Service (CCMS) at Lions Befrienders (LB).
Maintaining A Restful Home

Rozita, a Care Coordinator at LB, facilitates and administers the day-to-day operations of the SGH programme at Mei Ling. She checks on the residents to ensure things are running smoothly at home. It is important for Rozita to get her clients to open up, so that she can understand their needs better.
