Lions Befrienders has over 20 years of history in working with the community to provide friendship and care for seniors to cope with the demands of daily living, enabling them to age-in-place within the community for as long as possible and lead meaningful and enriching lives. Here is a snapshot of our significant developments over the years.

  • Inaugural Silver Bow Charity Dinner

  • Inaugural Lions Charity Show

  • Started second Senior Activity Centre at Tampines

  • Commenced Senior Group Home at Mei Ling Street

  • Re-opened Ang Mo Kio Senior Activity Centre

  • Re-opened Bendemeer Senior Activity Centre

  • Launch of the Giving Tree

  • Recipient of the Charity Transparency Awards

  • Broke the Singapore records for the most number of people wearing the Silver Bow

  • Commenced SAC (Cluster Support) operations & Senior Group Home in Tampines/Changi Senior Cluster Network

  • Launch of Silver Bow at International Day of the Older Persons

  • Commenced SAC (Cluster Support) operations in Clementi/Bukit Timah Senior Cluster Network

  • Recipient of the 2nd ASEAN Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (RDPE) Leadership Awards

  • Mei Ling SAC’s 15th Anniversary
  • Lions Befrienders’ 20th Anniversary
  • Started SAC (Cluster Support) operations at Bendemeer
  • Official opening of Ghim Moh and Clementi SAC
  • Inaugural Befrienders’ Day
  • Official opening of Tampines SAC
  • Co-organised International Volunteer Day (IVD) with YMCA of Singapore and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities with support from NVPC (2012 being the first time IVD was organized by VWOs)
  • Recipient of the NCSS Outstanding VWO Award 2011 (Innovation)
  • Recipient of the inaugural National Council of Social Service (NCSS) Outstanding VWO Award 2010 (Collaboration)
  • Launch of Project Helping Hands (Partnership with Ngee Ann Polytechnic and The New Paper to install Elderly Monitoring System in seniors’ homes)
  • Lions Befrienders’ 15th Anniversary
  • Recipient of Best Practices in Volunteer Management Award by the National Volunteerism & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC)
  • Publication of ‘Volunteering 101’ Manual for Befrienders
  • Official opening of Bendemeer Neighbourhood Link (NL)
  • Inaugural Befriending Walk held at Bishan Park
  • First Lions Befrienders Family Day for volunteers
  • Opening & expansion of Mei Ling SAC
  • Merit winner of Best Volunteer Management System accorded by the National Volunteer Centre
  • Opening of Ang Mo Kio Service Centre
  • Became a district programme of Lions Clubs International District 308-A1
  • Official handing over of the Befriending Service programme from the then Ministry of Community Development to the Lions Club of Singapore North, Serangoon Gardens and Stamford
  • Official opening of the Lions Befriender Service Association of Singapore North, Serangoon Gardens and Stamford
  • First appreciation dinner for befrienders at Orchid Country Club
